We are currently acquiring works by Martha Sawyer for
a permanent exhibit
William Reusswig (1902-1978)
was born in New York. He studied art in 1924.
His first published assignments were interior illustrations
for Colliers. He went on to illustrate stories for Cosmopolitan,
Everybody's, Liberty and other magazines.
He and his wife (Martha Sawyers) produced illustrated
articles about exotic lands. He sold freelance pulp covers to Ace-high,
Action Novels, Argosy, Detective Tales, Dime Detectives and other magazines.
After the war he drew comic adaptations of classic novels for King Features
newspaper syndication and Book-of-the-Month Club.
In 1961 and 1964 Reusswig and his wife produced two collaborative books
on the Far East. William Reusswig died in 1978 at the age of 75 and is
buried with his wife in Cuero, Texas.
