Constructing the Cuero Federal Building
| |
The Federal Building that houses the Cuero Heritage Museum construction process is one of the most documented ever recorded in Texas history. Photos were taken every two weeks and we have the original blueprints and the construction manager’s journal as well. The building represents a transitional period in building technology. While concrete was known, it was not fully trusted; consequently, the foundation of the building was made of bricks but the floors are poured concrete. The roof is support by ribbed steal rafters and is the only structure in Cuero of that kind. Architect students will often come to inspect the building to learn more about the transitional time in which it was built.
